"Engagingly written and beautifully illustrated...
Simply stated,
Gaia and the Golden Toad is an original and very highly recommended addition to family, elementary school, and community library picture book collections on the effects of Climate Change for young readers. "
    - Children's Bookwatch, Midwest Book Review

"Gaia and the Golden Toad is a powerful, beautifully-illustrated book that parents should read with their children. As my 10 year old daughter said, 'it shows us what could happen if we don’t act to stop climate change.'"
    - Michael E. Mann, Distinguished Professor, Penn State University, and co-author of The Madhouse Effect.

About the book

This fact-based fantasy tells of the travels of Earth’s child, Gaia. As Gaia makes her usual rounds of the world, she soon discovers that much of the world has changed and many of Earth’s creatures have been harmed. But eventually Gaia learns that Earth’s children offer hope for all creatures’ survival.

The "quilted illustrations" combine various techniques, including stuffed and sculpted applique, embroidery, knitting, and overlapping fabrics to create texture and depth. The fabrics are from many sources—old, new, hand-painted, hand-knit, or crocheted—and occasionally pulled from the author's own wardrobe to achieve just the right color or texture.
